- The benefits of choosing a Patio Enclosures® screen room
Everyone likes spending summer nights outside enjoying the beautiful weather, but sometimes the elements and bugs can ruin our plans. However, there is a way to not only prevent a summer shower from dampening your evening but also prevent mosquitoes from bothering you and your guests, and it does not involve harmful chemicals!
How a Screen Room Can Protect You This Summer
It’s summer and you’re ready to plan your outdoor get-togethers; but instead of focusing on the party details, you are worrying about the outdoor conditions. There’s no need to worry. Adding a screen room to your home has many benefits, especially when it comes to the unpredictable outdoors. Your party can still go on rain or shine, while you and your guests enjoy the warm summer breeze.
Another issue often overlooked when planning outdoor activities is bugs; and more specifically, mosquitoes. They can be such a nuisance during the summer and can leave you itching for the rest of the week!
Mosquitoes: Not Just a Nuisance
While we all know that mosquitoes are annoying, are you aware of the many infectious diseases that mosquitoes can carry? According to The American Mosquito Control Association, mosquitoes cause more human suffering that any other organism.
Three harmful diseases transmitted by mosquitoes include:
- West Nile Virus
- Malaria
- Zika Virus
West Nile Virus
The West Nile Virus is a mosquito-borne disease that is well known around the world. There have been close to 42,000 reported cases of West Nile Virus in the United States since 1999 with around 19,000 of the cases resulting in neurological disease.
Malaria
The serious and sometimes fatal disease, Malaria, is caused by a parasite that commonly infects a certain type of mosquito, the female Anopheles mosquito which feeds on humans. Symptoms in people infected with malaria are high fever, shaking chills and flu-like illness. Approximately 1,500 cases of malaria are diagnosed in the United States annually.
Zika Virus
Recently, the Zika virus has become a major concern for some countries in the Americas. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of June 15, 2016, there have been 755 travel-associated cases of the Zika Virus in the United States. The most common symptoms of the virus are fever, rash, joint and muscle pain, and headaches lasting for up to a week.
While the chances of being infected with one of these diseases are low, you’ll still want to keep the bugs away from your social gatherings. Protect your friends and family this summer by adding a screen room to your home.
